Travelling to Montréal

We are pleased to announce our partnership with Air Canada. When you purchase a FinTech Forum ticket, you are eligible for a discount on your airfare (a promo code will be included in your Forum ticket purchase confirmation e-mail so that you can take advantage of this discount).

We are pleased to announce our partnership with VIA Rail Canada to facilitate your travel to the Canada FinTech Forum. When you purchase a FinTech Forum ticket, you are eligible for a discount on your train tickets (a promo code will be included in your Forum ticket purchase confirmation e-mail so that you can take advantage of this discount).

For taxis and limousines, go to the arrivals level near the main entrance opposite the cloakroom, where a dispatcher will assist you. It is not necessary to reserve ahead of time. All taxi and limousine operators working out of Montréal-Trudeau Airport have the required licence and must respect its terms and conditions. Exceptionally, when demand is high, Montréal-Trudeau Airport may call on outside operators.

Metered rates apply to all directions except downtown. The rate for a trip from the airport to downtown Montréal is approximately $50 CAD.

Method of payment: Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards are accepted. Some drivers accept U.S. currency, but provincial regulations require customers to pay in Canadian dollars.

Information for travellers from outside Canada

Foreign travellers flying to Canada who are exempt from visa requirements must present an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). Exceptions include U.S. citizens and travellers with a valid Canadian visa.

To determine whether you need a visa, visit the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website:

You may need an invitation letter before being granted a Canadian visa. If so, please notify us at info@finance-montreal.com

Forum registration fees do not include provisions for insurance for personal injury, illness, flight cancellation or property damage. This applies to all activities organized during the Forum. Participants and guests are invited to purchase any insurance they deem necessary. The organizing committee and the organizations and partners involved in organizing the Forum take no responsibility for any loss, injury or damage to persons or property, regardless of the cause. Access to healthcare is costly for non-residents and we therefore recommend that participants make their own travel insurance arrangements (medical and accident insurance). We also recommend coverage for loss of luggage and other incidents.

Currency and tax

The recognized currency is the Canadian dollar. A 5% goods and services tax (GST) and a 9.975% Quebec sales tax (QST) apply to all goods and services purchased in Quebec.

A 3.5% tax also applies to each accommodation unit rented in an establishment located in the Montréal tourist region.

Foreign exchange offices

You can convert your money at Montréal-Trudeau Airport (very high exchange rates), at your hotel (not recommended) or by using your bank card at a bank (for a small fee). There are also a number of currency exchange offices in downtown Montréal that offer competitive rates.

Tips at restaurants and elsewhere

Since service fees are not included on the bills at restaurants, it is customary to leave a 15% tip before tax. If you make a group reservation, the 15% tip may be automatically added to your bill. Taxi drivers, delivery personnel and hairdressers normally receive a 10% to 15% tip. Baggage handlers and porters receive at least $1 for each item of luggage handled and for each service rendered.

In Canada, like the rest of North America, electricity runs on 110 volts. Electronic devices from countries outside North America require an adapter.

Your stay in Montréal

Montréal is a unique city, offering both North American and European charm. The Greater Montréal area has nearly four million inhabitants, making it the second most populous city in Canada and the second largest Francophone city in the world after Paris.

Both peaceful and dynamic, Montréal is a bilingual city where French and English live side by side. Montréal enjoys an enticing cultural blend, making it a cosmopolitan and welcoming city. On several occasions, it was voted one of the cities with the best quality of life in the world.

In addition to being internationally renowned for its high-quality festivals, artistic and sports events, nightlife and numerous tourist activities, Montréal has become a hub in several economic sectors such as aerospace, finance, pharmaceuticals, technology, arts and cinematography.

Old Port

The Old Port offers a variety of unique events throughout the seasons, including festivals, shows and other celebrations. Events for all tastes and cultures are organized around music, food, well-being and much more, always in a friendly atmosphere. There is always something captivating going on at Montréal’s Old Port. The Montreal Science Centre and the Clock Tower Beach are two of the prominent attractions visited by thousands of travellers.
